ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. | Eckerd College scored four runs in the first inning en route to a 12-5 non-conference baseball victory over Georgia College & State University Sunday (Feb. 11) afternoon at the Turley Complex.
The Tritons improved to 4-2 with the series sweep, while the Bobcats fell to 4-3. GCSU will return to John Kurtz Field Tuesday (Feb. 13) for a 4 p.m. contest against Albany State University.
After the Tritons put up four runs in the first inning against GCSU starter
Aidan McConnell (1-1), the Bobcats cut the lead in half with two runs in their next at-bat.
Mason Poole drove in the first run on a single to right field and
Brandon Bellflower added a solo homer - his first of the season - to right field.
Eckerd added a run in the fifth and two more in the sixth to open up a 7-2 lead. GCSU pushed across a run in the top of the seventh on
Cam McNearney RBI single to center field. The Tritons added two more runs in the seventh and three more in the eighth to open up a 12-3 lead. The Bobcats scored twice in the ninth on an RBI single to right-center field by McNearney and a run-scoring double to left field by
Braeden Smith.
Bellflower, McNearney and Smith each had two hits of the nine hits collected by the Bobcats.Â
