TIGERVILLE, S.C. | Zach Cowart and David Lewis each drove in three runs as No. 2 North Greenville University downed Georgia College & State University 7-4 in a non-conference baseball game Wednesday (Feb. 21) afternoon at Ashmore Park.
The No. 2 Crusaders improved to 10-2, while the Bobcats, who played their fourth consecutive contest against a nationally ranked team, fell to 5-7. GCSU returns to John Kurtz Field Friday (Feb. 23) to open up a three-game non-conference series with the University of North Georgia. First pitch is set for 5 p.m.
Cowart led off the game with a homer to right field and Lewis followed with a two-run homer to left-center later in the inning. GCSU tied the game with three runs in the top of the second.
Mason Poole drove in a run with the bases loaded after being hit by a pitch and
Rand Bestermann added a bases-loaded walk.
Cam McNearney closed out the scoring with a sacrifice fly.
North Greenville added single runs in the second, fifth and sixth innings to take a 6-3 lead. Georgia College got a run back in the eighth on a
Gabriel Wuerth RBI single. Wuerth had three of the eight hits by the Bobcats.
Jacob Ryan (1-1) took the loss for the Bobcats.
