MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga.- Georgia College & State University Softball took a tough 7-5 loss to Flagler College in the series finale. The Saints took the Peach Belt Conference opening series.
GCSU fell to 10-6 on the season and 1-2 in PBC play. Flagler improved to 14-7 overall and 2-1 in the conference. Georgia College will take a break from conference play for a doubleheader at Anderson University on Tuesday, Feb. 27 starting at noon.
The Bobcats struck first in the Sunday contest to take the 1-0 lead in the second inning.
Karlie Gutierrez and
Stephanie Condland led the inning off with a base knock each.
Mackenzie Martin picked up the RBI single to push Gutierrez across for the lead. Flagler countered with a five run top of the third inning to give them the 5-1 lead. GCSU responded with a three run bottom half to make it a 5-4 ball game. Condland led the offense off with a double to the left center field fence.
Emily Hutcheson came in to pinch run and moved into scoring position on a Martin single. Hutcheson came around to score on an
Eliza Kuhne infield single.
Emily Hobbs nabbed a two RBI double to bring in Martin and Kuhne to make it a one run game. The Bobcats knotted the game up at five all on the first home run of the season for Condland. The Saints took the 7-5 lead in the sixth inning and took at the win.
Condland led the offense with a 3-for-4 day including a double, a round trip shot, a run scored and an RBI. Martin had a 3-for-4 performance with a run scored and an RBI.
Kam Caldwell rounded out the multi-hit players with her 2-for-4 day.
Jana Shellhorse got the start in the circle for the Bobcats. She threw 2.2 inning with four runs scoring on five hits while picking up two strikeouts.
Kaitlyn Anders was the first reliever throwing a single inning with one run scoring on one hit.
Shelby Jones came in as the third reliever and got the loss in the circle. She threw two and third innings with two runs scoring on four hits and a strikeout.
Kelsey Parlor closed the game throwing the final 1.2 innings. She pitched a gem allowing zero hits and zero runs while nabbing a strikeout.
