Bobcats complete series sweep of USCB with 13-3 victory in finale

HARDEEVILLE, S.C. | Georgia College & State University converted four University of South Carolina-Beaufort errors into 10 unearned runs as the Bobcats took the Peach Belt Conference baseball series finale with the Sand Sharks 13-3 in seven innings Sunday (March 10) afternoon at the Richard Gray Sports Complex.

The Bobcats, who won two run-rule games this weekend, improved to 12-10 overall and to 4-2 in the Peach Belt, while the Sand Sharks fell to 7-13 and 2-4. GCSU closes out the road trip with a 4 p.m. contest Tuesday (March 12) in Newberry, South Carolina, against Newberry College.

GCSU jumped out to a 7-0 lead through its first three innings as the Bobcats scored three runs in the first and two runs in each of the second and third innings.

Mitch Cowan drove in a run with a ground out in the first, while Mason Poole added a RBI single to left in the first inning. Matthew Mebane stroked a two-run single to center in the second, while the Bobcats scored twice on an error in the third.

The Bobcats ended the game early with a six-run seventh, highlighted by a three-run homer from Brandon Bellflower. It was Bellflower's third long ball of 2024. Hank Noonan added a run-scoring single to left in the frame.

Jacob Ryan (3-1) earned the win, scattering nine hits and a run over six innings while striking out four.

The Bobcats totaled 11 hits with Bellflower leading the way with three. Mebane, Poole and Cam McNearney each collected two apiece.
