MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. | The
Georgia College & State University baseball team fell in game one of their Peach Belt Conference series with Lander University 3-1 Friday (April 12) evening at John Kurtz Field.
GCSU fell to 24-14 on the season with Lander improving to 29-11. Both teams now sit at 14-5 in PBC play. The two squads will close out the series Saturday (April 13) with a 1 p.m. doubleheader. The 28th-ranked Bobcats will recognized their four seniors prior to the doubleheader at 12:30 p.m.
In the early goings of the game, it looked like the Bobcats were going to take the game by a narrow 1-0 margin. GCSU pushed the first run of the game around in the bottom of the third inning.
Evan Cowan kicked off the inning reaching on an error on the Bearcat shortstop. He came around to score on an RBI single from Rand Besterman. All of Lander's runs scored in the eighth inning on a pair of singles and a walk to take the game 3-1.
Braeden Smith was the lone Bobcat batsman to have multiple hits as he had a pair of singles.
John Luke Glanton got the start and took the loss for GCSU. He tossed seven and two thirds inning only giving up two runs on four hits. Glanton struck out seven batters just one shy of his season high.
John Raines closed the contest throwing one and a third innings only allowing one run on two hits with a strikeout.
