MARTINEZ, Ga.- Georgia College & State University Softball's
Karlie Gutierrez claims her second Peach Belt Conference Player of the Week honor in back-to-back weeks. She has also been named Zaxby's Player of the Week.
GCSU played five contests this past week included three with No. 2 ranked University of North Georgia. Gutierrez partook and all five contests going 9-for-14 good for a .642 batting average with three home runs, two doubles, nine RBI and seven runs scored. All of her multi-base hits came in the series with the No. 2 ranked Nighthawks.
The Bobcats kicked off the week with a doubleheader against North Greenville University. In game one of the doubleheader, Gutierrez got the start as the DP going 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored. She got a pinch-hit effort in game two and went 1-for-1 with a run scored. Gutierrez's most notable performance of the week was in the first contest against No. 2 ranked UNG where the Bobcats took the 12-3 lead in five innings. Gutierrez went a superb 3-for-4 with two three run nukes over the left centerfield wall. She drove in seven RBI, scored three runs and added a double to put GCSU on top. In game two of the series, she picked up her second double of the weekend and came around to score going 1-for-3. Gutierrez wrapped up the series with a 2-for-3 day scoring a run and driving one in on her third roundtripper of the weekend.
Gutierrez ranks in the top 10 in the PBC for batting average, slugging percentage, hits, RBI, triples, and home runs. Most notably she stands second in the conference for RBI with 55 and second in the conference for triples with four.
