DAHLONEGA, Ga. | John Luke Glanton pitched his second consecutive complete game and Georgia College & State University smacked three home runs as the Bobcats picked up a 6-1 Peach Belt Conference baseball victory over the Unversity of North Georgia Friday (April 26) evening at Bob Stein Stadium at Lynn Cottrell Park.
The Bobcats improved to 27-19 overall and to 17-8 in the PBC, while the Nighthawks fell to 28-16 and 13-9. The middle game of the three-game series is set for 2 p.m. Saturday (April 27).
Glanton improved to 8-4 as he scattered eight hits and struck out six while allowing just one walk. Glanton leads the Peach Belt with four complete games.
GCSU jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first as
Brandon Bellflower had a sacrifice fly and
Evan Cowan added an RBI single to left field.
Braeden Smith gave the Bobcats a 3-0 lead on a homer to left-center field. It was his fourth homer of the season.
Cam McNearney added a run-scoring double to left field an inning later before
Rand Bestermann stroked solo home runs in the seventh and ninth innings to give Georgia College a 6-0 lead. Besterman hit his first homer in the seventh to center field, while his long ball in the ninth went to left field. It was his first two home runs of 2024.
Smith had three of the 10 hits for the Bobcats, while Cowan and Bestermann had two each.
