COLUMBUS, Ga.- Georgia College & State University Softball concluded the 2024 season in the Peach Belt Conference Tournament Quarterfinals. The Bobcats fell in game one of the day 9-0 in five innings to Georgia Southwestern State University. They fell in game two 10-7 in eight innings to Columbus State University.
Georgia College capped off the season with a 28-28 record.
Game one was in favor of GSW. The Bobcats recorded a single hit and that was a one base knock from
Divina Checo. She led the offense going 1-for-2.
Shelby Jones got the start and the loss throwing three and two thirds' innings. Five runs scored on eight hits.
Golden Thrower came in relief going a single inning with four runs scoring, only one of which was earned, on four hits.
Tiffany Caban closed the game throwing a third of an inning and striking out the lone batter she faced.
Game two was a tit for tat game with CSU. They struck first plating a run in the bottom of the first inning. The Bobcats pushed their first run around in the top of the third inning on a fielder's choice from

Emily Hobbs who reached on a Cougar error. Columbus tacked on two runs in the bottom of the fourth to take the 3-1 lead. GCSU countered with a three-run top of the fifth. Hobbs led the inning off with a walk and was driven in on a moonshot from Gutierrez to knot the game at three. Designated player
Shea Zweifel gave Georgia College their first lead of the ball game on a solo nuke over the hitting cages in left field. Columbus took the 5-4 lead in the bottom of the fifth. Three back-to-back singles loaded the bases for the Bobcats in the top of the sixth. Hobbs tied the game at five with a sacrifice fly.
Kam Caldwell followed with an infield single to plate the sixth run. Zweifel struck yet again this time with an RBI single to make it 7-5 GCSU. CSU went on to tie in the bottom of the frame then took the win in the eighth inning on a home run to take the 10-7 win.
Mackenzie Martin led the offense with a 2-for-3 day and a run scored. Zweifel had a stellar day at the plate going 2-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored on a homer and a single. Gutierrez accounted for three RBI and a run scored on her home run.
Caban got the start in the circle tossing a single inning, only allowing one run.
Jana Shellhorse was the first reliever throwing three innings with four runs scoring on five hits. Jones closed the contest and got the loss going three and a third innings. She had three strikeouts with five runs scoring on seven hits.
