Bobcats, Warhawks battle to 1-1 draw

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. | Georgia College & State University and Auburn University at Montgomery women's soccer teams battled to a 1-1 draw Monday (Sept. 23) afternoon at the Bobcat Soccer Field.

The Bobcats improved to 3-3-1, while the Warhawks slipped to 2-2-1. GCSU returns to action Saturday (Sept. 28) at 1 p.m. when they host Flagler College in a Peach Belt Conference home match.

GCSU dominated the match as they outshot AUM 25-5, including a 12-4 margin on goal.

The Bobcats took a 1-0 lead right before halftime as Sara Schultz slotted a ball in the left side of the goal after the AUM goalkeeper couldn't hang on to Grace Phillips' initial shot from the right side.

AUM knotted the game at 1 in the 63rd minute when Lauren Akemon's chip shot went over the GCSU keeper's head.

The Bobcats had 15 corner kicks in the match, while the Warhawks had none.

Ella Hayes had three saves in net for the Bobcats, while AUM's Karla Guzman-Ortiz stopped 11.
