Augusta holds off pesky GSCU 88-76

AUGUSTA, Ga. | Georgia College & State University's offense heated up a little too late as they fell to Augusta University 88-76 in a Peach Belt Conference men's basketball game Wednesday (Jan. 29) night inside the Christenberry Fieldhouse.

The Bobcats fell to 6-12 overall and to 1-8 in the PBC, while the Jaguars climbed to 12-6 and 6-2. GCSU will look to bounce back against the University of South Carolina-Aiken Saturday (Feb. 1) at 3:30 p.m. inside the Centennial Center.

The Bobcats would fall behind from the get-go to open the game, scoring four of their eight points off free throws as they quickly fell behind the Jaguars 18-8. However, Luke Krawczyk would drain three consecutive three-pointers to bring GCSU within one point (18-17) midway through the first half. This would be the closest the Bobcats would get for the remainder of the half as the Jaguars would outscore GCSU 24-12 to close out the half to take a 42-29 lead.

Zyair Greene would help jump start the Bobcat offense out of the lockers, knocking down a quick three-pointer to go get within 10 points (42-32), but that would be as close as GCSU would get.. The Jaguars led by as many as 21 points (64-43) with 13 minutes to play, but GCSU the closest would get the rest of the way was 12 points on three occasions.

Greene would lead the Bobcats in points with 21, followed by Ian Davis (17) and Krawczyk (14). James Nichols III would lead the Bobcats with rebounds with four as GCSU was outrebounded by the Jaguars 43-24. Khalil Green would tack on four assists and three steals to lead the team in both categories.
