MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. | Bradley Wilson pitched seven shutout innings, but Georgia College & State University could not complete the sweep of Lynn University, falling 3-1 in the baseball series finale Saturday (Feb. 15) afternoon at John Kurtz Field.
The Bobcats saw their five-game winning streak snapped as they fell to 5-5, while the Fighting Knights improved to 5-5. GCSU continues its season with a six-game road trip, beginning with a 2 p.m. game against Erskine College Tuesday (Feb. 18) in Due West, South Carolina.
It was a pitcher's duel, with Wilson and Lynn's Ryan DiMaggio shutting down the opposing offenses for seven and six innings, respectively. However, neither pitcher collected a decision for their performances as zeros lit up the scoreboard for seven innings straight. Wilson struck out six and allowed just two hits and two walks, while DiMaggio struck out five and surrendered three hits and three walks.
The Fighting Knights pushed across the game's first run in the top of the eighth. Bryant Zayas, who reached on a fielder's choice, scooted from first to third base on a combination of a wild pitch and a throwing error. He later scored on Jesse Robinson single back up the middle off GCSU reliever Tyler Smith (0-1) to give Lynn a 1-0 lead.
Lynn plated two insurance runs in the top of the ninth to open up a 3-0 lead on another wild pitch and a sacrifice fly by Shawn Dougherty.
The Bobcats tried to rally in the ninth after Mitch Cowan and Caleb Miele got on base via a walk and a hit, but they were only able to score once on a throwing error as Fighting Knight closer Nathan Shane earned his third save of 2025.
Hunter Shew (2-0) collected the win on his two innings, giving up only one hit.
Five different Bobcats collected singles on the afternoon.
