DAHLONEGA, Ga. | Ben Hamacher went 3-for-5 with the Bobcats collecting nine hits in total, but the Nighthawk offense was too much as Georgia College & State University fell 10-2 to the University of North Georgia in a Friday (Feb. 21) afternoon baseball series opener at Bob Stein Field.
The Bobcats dropped their third straight, falling to 5-7, while the Nighthawks flipped that record and stand at 7-5. GCSU continued its series against North Georgia Saturday (Feb. 22) at 2 p.m.
John Luke Glanton (2-1) had the start for GCSU and escaped a bit of trouble in the first and second innings, but a pair of two-run home runs to center field from Phillip Ard and Nicholas Stinson taxed Glanton with four runs.
Ard struck again in the fourth, an inning later, for another two-run blast, this time to left field, giving the Nighthawks a six-run lead.
Carson Phillips got the scoring started for the Bobcats in the top of the fifth as he singled in Hamacher.
The Nighthawks had another multi-run inning at the bottom of the sixth, and this time, Stinson hit another two-run home run to give the Nighthawks a 10-1 lead.
Hamacher collected an RBI driving in Charlie Banks in the seventh to cap off his night.
Williams Pierce (2-0) threw five one-run innings in the winning effort, giving up five hits and three walks, but punched the ticket of a pair of Bobcats.
Nine separate Bobcats reached base either from hits or walks; however, Hamacher's three hits were followed by two from Phillips and one from Evan Cowan, Hank Noonan, Gabe Wuerth, and Banks.
