Bobcats close out Round Robin with 5-1 win over No. 23 Middle Georgia State

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. | Shelby Jones threw 6.1 innings of scoreless relief iinnings against No. 23 Middle Georgia State University as Georgia College & State University cruised to a 5-1 victory in a Sunday (Feb. 9) afternoon at the Bobcat Softball Field. 

The Bobcats improved to 4-4. while the Knights fell to 3-3. GCSU will begin a four-game road trip starting with two games in Greenwood, South Carolina,  Saturday (Feb. 15). GCSU will face Lenoir-Rhyne University at noon followed by a game against Carson-Newman University. 

Middle Georgia State took a 1-0 lead in its first at-bat before GCSU tied things up at 1 in the bottom of the inning, using a leadoff walk against Kam Caldwell and a pair of singles from Karlie Gutierrez and Stephanie Condland to even the score. 

Both pitchers flew through the next few innings, with Jones (1-2) giving up only a pair of hits until the Bobcat offense finally awoke in the fourth inning. Smart baserunning and taking advantage of an error by the Middle Georgia State defense would plate Eliza Kuhne as the go-ahead run. GCSU knocked in another via a fielder's choice by Gutierrez and increased the lead to three through a single by Kacie Wiggins.  

Caldwell added an extra insurance run with a base hit to score Kimber Kent

Wiggins and Caroline Pollock led the Bobcats with two hits apiece, while Caldwell drove in two runs.
