GCSU wraps up season with 87-73 loss at Columbus State

COLUMBUS, Ga. | Khalil Green led four Georgia College & State University men's basketball players in double figures with 24 points, but it wasn't enough as the Bobcats fell to Peach Belt Conference regular-season champions Columbus State University 87-73 Sunday (March 2) afternoon at the Lumpkin Center.

The Bobcats, who finished in ninth place in the conference, ended their 2024-25 campaign at 9-19 overall and 4-14 in the Peach Belt. The Cougars improved 25-3 and 16-2.

GCSU used an 11-0 run to open up a 17-8 lead with 13:33 left in the first half after Green hit the second of two free throws. Green, who hit two three-pointers and had a dunk, scored nine of the 11 points.

The Cougars battled back and took the lead after a steal and dunk by Jehloni James with 5:54 left before halftime. It was one of 20 turnovers committed by the Bobcats that converted into 34 points for Columbus State.

Columbus State took a 34-28 lead at the half, but the Bobcats fought back to open up a 39-37 lead on a Mason Etter layup with 15:42 left; however, Columbus State took the lead for good 23 seconds later on a Wisdom Uboh three-pointer.  The Cougars pushed their lead out to 10 points (52-42) before the Bobcats pulled within three at 54-51 after Dallas Clayton hit two free throws with 10:10 to go. The Cougars took an 11-point lead (69-58) after Uboh hit another long-distance shot with 6:46 left.

GCSU made one last attempt and got within five points (73-68) after a James Nichols III tipin with 3:44 remaining; however, Columbus State reeled off the next nine points to open up an 82-68 lead after an Uboh layup with 1:55 left.

Green led the Bobcats with 24 points on 8-of-11 shooting, including 3-of-4 from distance. Oscar Lynch hit four three-pointers and finished with 14 points, while Aidan Kudlas and Etter each added 11. Lynch recorded a double double with 10 rebounds, while Green, Nichols and and Tony Carpio had five apiece.
