VALDOSTA, Ga. | Orlando Pena drove in three runs to lead Valdosta University to a 9-2 non-conference baseball victory over Georgia College & State University Tuesday (March 25) afternoon at Billy Grant Field.
The Blazers improved to 17-14, while the Bobcats fell to 17-15. GCSU returns to Peach Belt Conference action Friday (March 28) when they travel to Orangeburg, South Carolina, for a 6 p.m. contest against Claflin University.
Gabe Wuerth gave the Bobcats a 1-0 lead in the first after a leadoff homer to right field, but the Blazers took the lead for good with two runs in the bottom half of the inning. Valdosta State built its lead up to 9-1 in the sixth after a two-run homer from Pena to left-center field.
The Bobcats scored their other run in the eighth inning on a
Hank Noonan RBI-single to right field.Â
Wuerth had two of the eight GCSU hits.
Christian Donaldson (3-5) took the loss for the Bobcats.
