MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. | Rand Bestermann and
Carson Phillips each drove in three runs as Georgia College & State University recorded a 12-2 Peach Belt Conferece baseball victory in seven innings over Columbus State University Saturday (April 19) aftermoon at John Kurtz Field.
The Bobcats snapped their two-game losing streak to improve to 27-19 overall and to 18-6 in the PBC, while the Cougars fell to 24-20 and 14-10. GCSU steps out of conference play for the final time Tuesday (April 22) when they travel to Salisbury, North Carolina, for a 4 p.m. contest against No. 12 Catawba College.
Sebastian Collender gave the Cougars a 1-0 lead with a solo homer to left in the second, but the Bobcats leveled the game at 1 in the bottom half of the inning thanks to a CSU error.
GCSU took the lead for good with two runs in the third and four more in the fourth inning to take a 7-1 lead.
Gabe Wuerth had an RBI double in the third before
Braeden Smith added a run-scoring ground out. Phillips started the scoring an inning later on a RBI double down the left-center field. Bestermann then laced a three-run home to left-center field. It was his third homer of 2025.
The Bobcats pushed their lead out to 10-1 in the fifth as Phillips drove in two with a double down the left field line, while
Keagan Baxter added a run-scoring single to center field.
After the Cougars got an unearned run in the sixth, GCSU scored twice in the bottom half.
Mitch Cowan drove in a run with a single to left field and
J.D. Coleman added a sacrifice fly.
Bradley Wilson (8-1) earned the complete-game win for the Bobcats. He scattered nine hits and allowed just one earned run.
GCSU collected 10 hits with
Evan Cowan,
Mitch Cowan, Phillips and Bestermann had two hits each. Fivr of the 10 hits went for extra bases.
