MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. | Jace Bowen drove in two runs as the 14th-ranked University of North Georgia baseball team shut out Georgia College & State University 3-0 in a Peach Belt Conference game on Senior Day Sunday (April 27) afternoon at John Kurtz Field.
The Nighthawks improved to 36-13 overall and clinched a share of the PBC regular season title with a 23-4. The Bobcats fell to 28-22 overall and earned the No. 3 seed for the upcoming PBC Tournament with a 19-8 record. GCSU will face No. 6 seed Flagler College in the opening of the double elimination quarterfinals Friday (May 2) at 6:30 p.m. in Greenwood, South Carolina. Bowen gave the Nighthawks a 1-0 lead with an RBI single in the first off Brown (7-2), who only allowed one earned run in 6.1 innings. Brown allowed just six hits and struck out three. North Georgia added an unearned run in the third to double its lead before Bowen in the eighth added an insurance run on his single through the left side.
GCSU had opportunities to score, but left 10 on base including two in each of the first three innings.
Hank Noonan had two of the six hits for the Bobcats, while
Ben Hamacher, Mebane, Cowan and
J.D. Coleman had one apiece.
Dylan Noce (5-0) earned the win with 6.1 innings of shut out baseball as he scattered four hits, four walks and a hit batter to earn the win, while Pierce Williams earned his first save with 2.2 innings of scoreless relief.
