GREENWOOD, S.C. | Tachi Nakao drove in four runs as No. 30 Lander University defeated Georgia College & State University 11-1 in eight innings in the winner's bracket game of the Peach Belt Conference Baseball Tournament Saturday (May 3) afternoon at Dolny Stadium.
The second-seeded Bearcats improved to 39-13 and will advance to the 1 p.m. bracket final Sunday (May 4), while the third-seeded Bobcats fell to 29-23 and will face either Flagler College or the University of Southion Carolina-Aiken in an elimination game Saturday (May 3) at 8 p.m.
Connor Droze gave Lander a 1-0 lead on an infield single in the first inning, before GCSU tied the game at 1 on a
Ben Hamacher infield single.
Lander broke the game open off GCSU starter
Bradley Wilson (9-2) with three runs in the fourth to take a 4-1 lead. Mario Lopez had an RBI double to right-center field before Will McClellan stroke his eighth homer - a two-run shot to left field.
Lander added three more in the sixth and seventh innings before closing out the game with an eighth-inning run.
Three Lander pitchers limited the Bobcats to four hits while striking out eight. Hamacher,
Braeden Smith,
Carson Phillips and
Matthew Mebane each registered a hit for GCSU. Phillips accounted for the lone extra-base hit with his double down the left field line in the eighth.
