GRANITEVILLE, S.C. | The University of South Carolina Aiken defeated Georgia College & State University in a women's basketball Peach Belt Conference matchup Saturday (Jan. 10) afternoon at the USC Aiken Convocation Center.
USCA improved to 4-11 overall and 1-6 in PBC play, while the Bobcats dropped to 5-10 overall and also 1-6 in conference play. GCSU returns to the Centennial Center Wednesday (Jan. 14) evening to host Columbus State University with a 5:30 p.m. tipoff.
The Pacers set the tone early, scoring a quick basket just 10 seconds into the game. USC Aiken jumped out to a quick 10-2 lead, but the Bobcats continued to battle, cutting the deficit to three points before Aiken extended their advantage to six at the break.
GCSU came out with energy to start the second half, taking a one point lead (25-24) behind a pair of free throws from
Deshona Gaither. USC Aiken responded immediately, regaining control and extending the lead to six points with free throws from Makaylei Snyder and a three-pointer and a jumper from Ioanna Stefanaki.
The Pacers maintained control the rest of the way, answering every Bobcat push and protecting their lead down the stretch.
Gaither led GCSU with 20 points and five rebounds, while
Elizabeth Wynn added nine points and 10 rebounds.
