MILLEDGEVILLE, GA | C.J. Jones and
Khalil Green combined for 36 points; however, they could not overcome Peach Belt Conference-leading Lander University, as Georgia College & State University fell 93-81 in a PBC men's basketball game Wednesday (Jan. 21) night inside the Centennial Center.
The Bobcats fell to 11-7 overall and to 6-4 in the PBC, while Lander improved to 13-4 and 8-2. GCSU looks to bounce back with another conference competition against Clayton State University Saturday (Jan. 24) at 3:30 p.m. in Morrow, Georgia.
The Bobcats jumped out to a speedy 10-3 lead as Green and Oscar Lynch sank three-pointers, and the lead later ballooned to 10 (22-12) at the 12:55 mark on Cam James' old-fashioned three-point play. However, the Bearcats cut into the deficit towards the end of the half, as Tommy Moore and Terry Leonard Jr. produced a short jumper and three-pointer, respectively. A Tony Carpio layup and one put the Bobcats up 43-37 at half.
Lander started the second half on the prowl, as an 8-3 run capped off by a three-pointer from Navaughn Maise cut the Bearcat deficit to one. The Bearcats later began to take control, as Greyson Pritzl scored on a consecutive layup and three-pointer for a six-point Lander-lead (59-53) with 12:16 remaining. The lead continued to explode, reaching 12 points after a Dylan Canoville dunk on a fast break, and the game ended with a 12-point Bobcat deficit four minutes later.
Jones led the Bobcats with 19 points, as Green followed with 17, Carpio with 16, and Lynch rounded out the double-digits with 13. Carpio led in boards with nine. Green assisted three times.
