Bobcats fall to Flagler in four sets on Family Weekend

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. | Georgia College & State University volleyball battled back to take an extended second set before falling to Flagler College 3-1 Saturday (Oct. 3) in Peach Belt Conference action on Family Weekend at the Centennial Center.

The Bobcats fell to 4-15 overall and 1-3 in Peach Belt Conference play, while the Saints remained undefeated in conference action at 5-0 and improved to 16-2 overall.

After Flagler took the opening set 25-17, GCSU responded with a strong comeback in the second. The Bobcats rallied back and battled through several late ties as neither team could create the two-point advantage needed to close out the set. GCSU eventually broke through for a 31-29 victory to even the match at one set apiece.

The Bobcats recorded 14 kills and hit .275 during the second-set victory. Flagler regained control in the third set with a 25-14 win before taking the fourth 25-16 to secure the match.

Avery Huyck and Reece Wright led the Bobcats offensively with 10 kills apiece, followed by Sierra Piland with seven and Emersyn Mullvain with six. Nya Warren added four kills. Ile Bernis dished out 17 assists, while Lexi Baum added 12.

Huyck also led GCSU defensively with 11 digs, followed by Liv Diaz with 10 and Bernis with eight. Nya Warren led the Bobcats at the net with four block assists, while Kendra Leboehi added three. Piland recorded one solo block and two block assists.

GCSU returns to action Tuesday (Oct. 6) to host Shorter University at 6 p.m.
