GCSU snaps 14-match skid against Augusta

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. | Georgia College & State University volleyball snapped a 14-match losing streak against Augusta University with a thrilling 3-1 Peach Belt Conference victory Friday (Oct. 9) at the Centennial Center as the Bobcats delivered a strong performance on both sides of the net.

The victory improved GCSU to 5-16 overall and 2-3 in Peach Belt play, while Augusta moved to 5-12 and 3-3. GCSU looks to build on the momentum Saturday (Oct. 10) at 3 p.m. when the Bobcats face Augusta again.

The Bobcats came out strong, claiming a tightly contested opening set 25-22, before taking control in the second with a commanding 25-11 victory. GCSU held Augusta to a negative hitting percentage in the second set while committing just one attack error.

Augusta answered in the third set with a 25-22 win, but the Bobcats responded with their strongest offensive performance of the night in the fourth. GCSU recorded 18 kills with just one attack error, hitting an impressive .386 as the teams battled through eight ties and three lead changes. The Bobcats ultimately edged the Jaguars 26-24 to seal the historic victory.

Avery Huyck and Sierra Piland led the Bobcats offensively with 12 kills apiece. Piland posted an impressive .455 hitting percentage with only two errors, while Huyck hit .310 and added three service aces. Kendra Leboehi contributed nine kills, followed by Emersyn Mullvain with five.

Lexi Baum dished out a team-high 17 assists, followed closely by Sadie Parkerson with 16. Huyck also led GCSU defensively with 16 digs, while Liv Diaz and Parkerson each added nine.

The Bobcats dominated at the net, recording 14 team blocks compared to Augusta's four. Mullvain led the defensive effort with eight block assists, followed by Piland with six and Nya Warren with five block assists and one solo block.
