MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. | The
Georgia College & State University softball team bounced back from an opening loss to earn a doubleheader split against 13th-ranked University of West Florida Friday (Feb. 13) afternoon at Bobcat Softball Field.
After dropping the opener 12-3, the Bobcats rallied for an 11-3 victory in the next one.
The Bobcats improved to 2-6, while the Argonauts fell to 10-2. GCSU looks to return to action Sunday (Feb. 15) to host Nova Southeastern for a doubleheader if the weather permits.
The Bobcats took an early 4-0 lead in the first inning in game two.
Reina Checo walked with bases loaded to score the first run, then
Stephanie Condland rallied an RBI single.
Sydney Lancaster then earned a two-run double to left field to extend the lead early.
GCSU picked their momentum back up in the third inning, scoring three runs on hits by
Emily Hutcheson,
Kacie Wiggins and
Emily Hobbs.
Hutcheson led the offense, going 3-for-3 with three runs scored. She sealed the win with her first collegiate solo home run to right field in the sixth inning, ending the game by run rule.
Sydney Garrett (2-2) earned the win in the circle, throwing a complete six innings.
In the opener, West Florida scored eight runs in the first inning to jump ahead early.
Maddie Todd then singled to left field to get
Kimber Kent home for a run. The Bobcats rallied in the third inning, when
Reina Checo followed with a two-run triple to left field, cutting into the Argonaut's lead.
Tiffany Caban (0-3) took the loss for the Bobcats.
