DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. | Embry-Riddle (Fla.) University swept a non-conference baseball doubleheader from Georgia College & State University Saturday (Feb. 7) afternoon at Silwa Stadium.
The Eagles won the three-game series with scores of 14-4 and 12-3 and improved to 2-4, while the Bobcats fell to 1-4. GCSU remains on the road when they travel to Franklin Springs, Georgia, for a 3 p.m. game against Emmanuel (Ga.) University Wednesday (Feb. 11).
The Bobcats took a 1-0 lead in the opener when
Evan Cowan led off the game with a double through the left side and scored on a grounder by
Carson Phillips.
Embry-Riddle took control of the game with a six-run frame in the bottom half of the first of GCSU starter
Tams Mullins (0-1). GCSU got a run back in the fourth as
Blake Bellflower, who reached on an infield single, scored on
Keagan Baxter's RBI-double through the left side.
The Eagles responded with a five-run fourth to open an 11-2 lead. The Bobcats added a two-run single to center field in the sixth.
GCSU compiled 10 hits in the opener led by Cowan and
Ty Petrovich, who each collected two hits apiece.
Embry-Riddle jumped on GCSU starter
Jake Beaver (0-1) for four runs in the first. GCSU got within a run at 4-3 as they scored once in the second and added two more an inning later.
Caleb Miele and Baxter had back-to-back singles in the second before Huddleston drove in Miele.
Luke Boone connected on his second homer of the season - a two-run shot - in the third. Phillips, who reached on a single, scored on the long ball.
The Eagles added a run in the sixth and scored seven more runs in the seventh.
GCSU tallied 10 hits in the nightcap as Miele and Baxter led the way with two hits.
