MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. | Georgia College & State University and Columbus State University each had 10 hits, but the Cougars defeated the Bobcats 11-3 in a Peach Belt Conference baseball game Saturday (March 14) afternoon at John Kurtz Field.
The Cougars, who took advantage of 15 walks, improved to 13-8 overall and to 8-3 in the Peach Belt, while the Bobcats slipped to 9-15 and 6-8. The teams will wrap up their three-game series at 1 p.m. Sunday (March 15).
Columbus State scored at least a run in every inning, but the ninth.
Carson Phillips laced an RBI double down the left field line in the third inning to score the first Bobcat run as they trimmed the deficit to 3-1.
Evan Cowan made it 4-2 in the fourth on his single to center field and the Bobcats added another run in the sixth on another Cowan hit to center.
Cowan, Phillips, and
Cole Huddleston had two hits apiece.
Carson Vick also had a double for the Bobcats.
Connor Folds (3-3) earned the win with seven innings of work, while
Jake Beaver (3-3) absorbed the loss for GCSU.
