Bobcats complete doubleheader sweep over Fort Valley State

FORT VALLEY, Ga. | Georgia College & State University completed a non-conference softball doubleheader sweep of Fort Valley State University Tuesday (April 14) at the Lady Wildcats Softball Field. 

The Bobcats took the opener 3-1, then dominated in the nightcap, taking an 11-3 victory. 

With the sweep, GCSU improved to 23-15 overall, while Fort Valley State fell to 16-23. The Bobcats return to the Bobcat Softball Field Friday (April 17) evening to host Lander University at 6 p.m. for the series opener. 

In game one, GCSU broke the scoreless tie in the fourth when Emily Hobbs singled, stole second and third, and scored on a sacrifice fly by Sydney Lancaster. Maddie Todd then followed with an RBI single to make it 2-0. 

The Bobcats extended the lead to 3-0 in the sixth when Todd doubled and later scored on a sacrifice fly from Addison Black

Tiffany Caban was dominant in the circle for the Bobcats, allowing only two hits and one run while striking out 10. 

In the nightcap, GCSU scored three runs in the first inning, one in the second, and added multiple runs in the third, fifth, and seventh. Kimber Kent and Emily Hobbs each recorded three hits and three runs scored to lead the Bobcats. 

Skylar Lee went 1-for-1 with an RBI and a walk, while Stephanie Condland and Sydney Lancaster each drove in two runs. 

Jacy Singleton earned the win in the circle for game two, combining with Annalise Knop to hold Fort Valley State to only three runs.
