ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. | Eli Maddox's bases-clearing double in the seventh was the difference as Flagler College edged Georgia College & State University 5-2 in a Peach Belt Conference baseball game Friday (April 3) evening at Drysdale Field.
The Saints improved to 25-11 overall and to 12-8 in the Peach Belt, while the Bobcats fell to 13-21 and 8-12. The teams wrap up their three-game series with a noon contest Saturday (April 5).
Flagler took a 2-0 lead with single runs in the second and fourth innings before GCSU got a run back in the sixth on
Carson Phillips' homer to left-center field to cut the deficit in half. It was Phillips' second long ball of the season.
After the Saints put together the three-run seventh inning to take a 5-1 lead, the Bobcats scored a run in the eighth to trim the lead to 5-2.
Evan Cowan led off the frame being hit by a pitch. He then stole second, moved to third on
Carson Vick's single to left and scored on Phillips' sacrifice fly to center field.
Phillips and
Blake Bellflower each accumulated two hits apiece as GCSUÂ collected eight as a team.
