MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. | The Georgia College & State University Department of Athletics has announced that Catrina Green has been named the women's basketball head coach.

"I am absolutely delighted about turning the future of our women's basketball program over to coach Catrina Green," said GCSU President Cathy Cox. "In her quiet but effective manner as our interim coach this year, she motivated our team to believe in themselves and to fight for every point until the final buzzer — which they did game after game. She led our Bobcats to the Peach Belt Conference Tournament Championship game for the first time in 11 years and earned our respect and this opportunity. Congratulations, Coach Green!" 

Green served as the interim head coach for the Bobcats last season. She led GCSU to a 14-17 record, including a 70-68 win over then-No. 18 Columbus State University. The Bobcats, who won six of their final seven games, finished in a tie for sixth place in the Peach Belt Conference. GCSU was the No. 7 seed in the PBC Tournament and defeated No. 2 seed University of South Carolina-Beaufort and No. 3 seed University of North Georgia on the road to advance to the program's first championship game since 2015.

"We are thrilled that Catrina Green is leading our program," said GCSU Director of Athletics Wendell Staton.  "She is an outstanding coach and an even better person.  While the success of the season was part of the process, it was the journey that was centered around positive relationships that became the clear difference maker.   The positive and encouraging manner in which the student-athletes talk about their coach is something we should all aspire to duplicate.  In my entire career, I have never seen a team make such a transformation during the course of the season like this team.  She absolutely changed the culture of the program and has us moving in an incredibly positive direction.

"It was a pleasure to watch her team's practice and observe the quality of teaching and the quality of relationships that she has with her team and staff," added Staton.  "Catrina has made such an impact throughout the campus and community as she is so well liked by everyone and always provides a smile and a positive outlook.  She has a full tank of gas and we are thrilled that she has chosen to ride on the GCSU highway."

Green served as an assistant coach for the Bobcats during the 2024-25 season. She helped lead GCSU to 17 wins, including a 51-43 road victory over then-No. 5 University of North Georgia in February. The Bobcats garnered a  No. 4 seed in the Peach Belt Tournament - their highest seed since 2018 -  and hosted their first PBC Tournament game since 2011.

Green came to Milledgeville after three seasons as the head girls' basketball coach at West Forsyth High School in Clemmons, North Carolina. She led the Titans to a 37-37 mark, with two winning seasons and one conference tournament championship. She also served as the head coach for the CP3 Basketball Academy Girls 16U team in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, for two seasons.

Prior to West Forsyth, Green spent a season each as an assistant coach at Texas A & M International University in Laredo, Texas, and the University of South Carolina - Upstate in Spartanburg, South Carolina. Texas A & M International finished as champions of the South Division in the Lone Star Conference. The Dustdevils finished with the best win percentage in school history, beating two NCAA Division I teams during the 2020-2021 season.

Green also served as an assistant at Lincoln Memorial University in Harrogate, Tennessee. While at LMU, Green helped the Railsplitters record a 16-14 overall record and a 10-10 conference record. Under the guidance of Green, the Railsplitters made it back to South Atlantic Conference semifinals for a fourth consecutive season.

Prior to her stint in the Volunteer State, Green was an assistant coach at the University of Illinois Springfield during the 2016 season. From April to August 2015, Green was an assistant coach with the Carolina Reign Elite 15U Girls AAU Team in Greensboro, North Carolina.

Green had two stints professionally overseas, where she played with Club Uniao Sportiva from September 2014 to April 2015 and Club SG Bergisch Lowen September 2016 to March 2017.

Green had a stellar collegiate career at Gardner-Webb University from 2011-2014. Green was one of 24 players to surpass the career 1,000-point mark, ranking 13th with 1,241 points. Green has an even more intriguing stat as she is one of only eight student-athletes to haul in over 500 career rebounds and is the only player to snag over 1,000 with 1,012 in her four-year career.

 As a freshman, she was named to the Big South All-Freshman Team, while being a Big South Second Team All-Conference player in 2012 and 2014. She was also on the Big South All-Academic Team as well as the NCCSIA First Team All-State to cap off her senior campaign.

GCSU will hold an introductory press conference and community welcome for Green at 3 p.m. Wednesday (April 8). The meet and greet along with the press conference in the Pat Peterson Museum Education Room located in GCSU's Russell Library. The community and media are welcome to attend.
