CENTRAL, S.C. | The Georgia College & State University collected 16 hits as the Bobcats defeated Southern Wesleyan University in a non-conference baseball game Wednesday (April 8) evening at Dr. C. Keith Connor Field.
The Bobcats improved to 15-21, while the Warriors fell to 14-26. GCSU opens up a Peach Belt Conference series against Lander University Friday (April 10) at 6 p.m. at John Kurtz Field.
The Bobcats opened up a 2-0 lead with single unearned runs in the first two innings before the Warriors tied the game at 2 with two runs in the second.
GCSU took a 3-2 lead in the third after
Carson Phillips was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. After Southern Wesleyan tied the game at 3 in the fourth, GCSU took the lead for good at 4-3 on a
Carson Vick single up the middle in the fifth.
The Bobcats added two more runs in the seventh to up a 6-3 lead. Phillips had a sacrifice fly and
Blake Bellflower added an RBI double to left-center field.
The Warriors got two runs back in the eighth inning, but the Bobcats broke the game open with four runs in the top of the ninth.
Luke Boone led off the scoring with a two-run homer to left field. It was Boone's sixth home run of the season.
Griffin Davis and
Bryson Whited each drove in runs with bases-loaded walks.
Reliever
Walker Roberts (2-0) earned the win for the Bobcats, while Davis earned his seventh save of 2026 by recording the final five outs.
Six of the 16 hits for the Bobcats went for extra bases. Phillips, Bellflower,
Cole Huddleston,
Tanner Patterson and
Trevor Allan each had a double for GCSU. Huddleston and Patterson each had three hits to lead the GCSU attack, while Phillips, Vick, Boone and Whited had two hits apiece.
