Bobcats end regular season with 8-3 win over Middle Georgia on Senior Day

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. | The Georgia College & State University softball team closed out the regular season with an 8-3 win over Middle Georgia State University Sunday (May 3) at the Bobcat Softball Field.

The Bobcats finished the regular season 28-19 overall and 16-11 in the Peach Belt Conference, while the Knights finished 17-28 and 8-18. GCSU earned the No. 3 seed in the Peach Belt Conference Tournament and will return to action Friday (May 8) against No. 6 seed the University of South Carolina Beaufort in the first round.

Georgia College got on the board in the second inning on a sacrifice fly by Halley Nobles that scored Kimber Kent to take a 1-0 lead. A solo home run to left field from Sydney Lancaster and an RBI single from Stephanie Condland extended the lead to 3-1 in the third.

The Bobcats broke the game open in the fourth, plating four runs on a two-RBI single by Addison Black and a two-RBI double by Maddie Todd to push the lead to 7-1. An RBI single from Kent in the sixth capped the scoring.

Kent paced the offense with two hits, two runs scored and an RBI, while Todd and Black each drove in two runs. Karlie Gutierrez reached base four times and scored three runs.

In the circle, Tiffany Caban (9-5) earned the win, striking out eight over five innings while allowing just one earned run. Sydney Garrett closed the game with two scoreless innings, striking out four.
