GCSU, five players earn ITA academic awards

GILBERT, Ariz. | The Georgia College & State men's tennis team has been recognized as an All-Academic Team by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association while players Jakob Andergassen, Reid Bissell, Rodrigo Pérez Crespo, Chase Martin and Finn O'Neill were named Scholar-Athletes by the organization.

The Bobcats, who were one of 70 NCAA Division II institutions recognized by the ITA, had a 3.54 cumulative grade-point average as a team this year. To be named an All-Academic team, a program had to have a 3.20 GPA.  It was the fifth consecutive year and ninth time overall that GCSU has been named an All-Academic Team by the ITA.

Andergassen, a freshman from Caldaro, Italy, has a 3.50 GPA as an exercise science major, while Bissell, a junior from Norcross, Georgia, posted a 3.89 GPA as an accounting major. Perez Crespo, a senior from Ourense, Spain, tallied a 3.81 GPA as a marketing major, while Martin, a graduate student from Tampa, Florida, collected a 3.67 GPA as a logistics and supply chain management major. O'Neill is a freshman from Canton, Georgia, and has a 3.91 GPA as a finance major. It is the fourth ITA Scholar-Athlete honor for Perez Crespo, the third for Bissell and second for Martin.

To be named an ITA Scholar-Athlete, the player must have a 3.50 GPA for the current academic year.
