The Georgia College Women's Basketball program and Head Coach Ross Jolly have announced the hiring of Sydney Cleveland as a graduate assistant coach.
"I am very excited that Sydney will be working with our team this year in her new role as our Graduate Assistant," said Jolly. "In our short time so far, Sydney has been very helpful in several areas of our program. Transitioning from a player to staff member can be difficult, but she has done an outstanding job so far. I'm looking forward to working with Sydney these next two seasons and watching her grow in her new role."
Cleveland, originally from Gainesville, transitions to a coaching role after spending the last four seasons as a forward for Georgia College. Cleveland was the Bobcats' leading scorer in the 2018-19 season. She was named to the Peach Belt All-Academic Team as a sophomore, junior, and senior. Cleveland ranks fifth in Georgia College history in career three-point field goals made (157) and in free-throw percentage (77.9).
"As much as I enjoyed being a student-athlete, I am even more excited about starting my first coaching experience here at Georgia College as a Graduate Assistant," said Cleveland. "I am in the process of getting my Masters of Arts in Teaching Secondary Education, but my dream is to stay at the college level and coach. GC holds a special place in my heart, and I am thankful and humbled to still be here and have this opportunity. I look forward to working with the athletic department staff as well as learning from Coach Jolly, who is a great addition to the GC family. I am also excited to watch my former teammates grow on and off the court these next two years."
Former Bobcat Women's Basketball Player came back for her first season as a graduate assistant coach to help Coach Jolly and Coach Kyles. Cleveland was able to help Ross Jolly and Jordan Kyles with her former teammates playing styles and gave her expertise on how to have a sucessful seaon as Bobcats.
