FLORENCE, S.C. - Despite
winning the second half 38-30, Georgia College & State
University women's basketball (8-5, 3-3 PBC) lost at Francis Marion
University (12-1, 5-1 PBC) 86-67 today (Jan. 17) ending a
three-game Bobcat win streak.
The Patriots own the Peach Belt Conference's (PBC) top offense,
with the Bobcats holding FMU under its season average of 93.7
points per game. Five FMU players scored in double-digits.
A pair of seniors led the offensive attack for Georgia College,
as Tiauna Brantley
(Woodstock, Ga.) had 17 points and nine boards, and Emily Bixler
(Lawrenceville, Ga.) scored nine of her 11 points in the
much-improved second half.
The Patriots got 15 points from Kevina Ransom off the bench, and
also earned a double-double from starting forward Shannon
Singleton-Bates.
The Bobcats had trouble shooting from everywhere but the
free-throw line, dropping 30 percent (23-76) from the field and 25
percent (5-20) from three point, but 80 percent (16-20) from the
stripe.
The win gives FMU a 16-15 advantage in the all-time series, and
two-straight wins against the Bobcats.
The Bobcats are back in action Monday, Jan. 19 at 5:30 p.m.,
hosting No. 17 Clayton State University (11-2, 5-1 PBC). The Lakers
most recently lost to Lander University today, 85-84.
