MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. - The
Georgia College & State University men's basketball team is
13-2 for the first time since the 1999-2000 season, thanks to an
amazing 69-63 win over No. 10 USC Aiken (12-4, 7-2 PBC) tonight
(Jan. 24) in the Centennial Center.
The theme was "Green Day" for GCSU, and the Pacers left the gym
looking a little green, as the top team in the Peach Belt
Conference (PBC) was knocked off thanks to some solid defense and a
25-of-35 effort from Georgia College's charity stripe.
Junior guard Graham Martin
(Marietta, Ga.) led the Bobcats with 17 points, hitting
5-of-9 from the field and adding four assists. Senior three-point
marksman Shaun Keaton
(Albany, Ga.) seconded that effort, pouring in 15 on three
threes and 6-of-6 from the free-throw line.
The Bobcats out-rebounded USCA, the third-best rebounding squad
in the PBC, 33-29. The Bobcats were matched 6-to-6 in threes made,
with the biggest disparity coming in free throws, as GCSU made 25
to the Pacers' 11.
Leading USCA was 2008 PBC Co-Player of the Year Chris Commons
with 19 points. Guard Javonte Clanton had 13 points with three
threes, with guard Mark Brown adding 10 points off the bench.
The Bobcats started the season 14-1 in 1999-2000, widely
recognized as the best year in program history. That season, 2008
Georgia College Hall of Fame inductee Julius Joseph led the Bobcats to a 25-6
record, reaching the Elite Eight round of the NCAA Tournament.
Tonight was Bobcat head coach Terry Sellers'
700th game as a head coach, as he owns a 465-235 (.664) mark
all-time, including 267-173 (.607) as the Georgia College skipper.
The Bobcats are now 7-2 in PBC play, tied for first in the loss
column.
Georgia College now owns a 23-16 advantage in the all-time
series, tonight's win halting a two-game win streak for the Pacers.
The Bobcats are now 8-1 in their last nine this season.
The Bobcats are back in action Wednesday, Jan. 28 at 7:30 p.m.
hosting Columbus State University (5-10, 3-6 PBC). The Cougars most
recently beat UNC Pembroke 91-83 tonight.
