JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. - Staying undefeated at
3-0, the Georgia College & State University men's basketball
team used four double-figure scorers in the starting lineup to beat
Carson-Newman College (3-2) 82-70 tonight in the Dick Campbell
Memorial Classic.
Senior point guard Ty Rowland (Lilburn,
Ga.) knocked down three three-pointers and finished with a
career-high 19 points to lead the Bobcat scoring quartet. Rowland
added seven rebounds and four assists to a solid line.
The remaining three have scored in double-digits for each of the
first three games this season. Senior guard Jake Rios (Bozeman,
Mt.) hit four threes and tallied 14 points, while
classmate Graham Martin
(Marietta, Ga.) had 14 points and six rebounds. Junior
forward Reece Wiedeman
(Suwanee, Ga.) had nearly as many points as minutes,
hitting for 10 in 18 ticks. Frontcourt mate and fellow junior
Josh
Hurst (Athens, Ga.) had seven points, a team-best
eight boards and three blocks.
The Eagles' J.J. Wesley led all scorers with 24, but got little
help, as reserve Cameron Sharp had 13, and Quinche Dowdell added 11
with a game-high nine boards.
The team exploded for a season-best 10 blocks, more than
doubling the single-game high from early this year. Senior
Robert
Thomas (Mankato, Minn.) led the team with four, with
Hurst adding three of his own.
Georgia College made good on hustle points, turning 16 offensive
boards into a 21-13 lead in second-chance points, and making 19
turnovers into a 29-16 lead in points off turnovers.
The Bobcats are back in action tomorrow, Nov. 28 at 2 p.m.
against Tusculum College in the final day of the holiday
tournament.
