AIKEN, S.C.- The No. 20 Georgia College &
State University softball team (10-7, 3-1 PBC) split fellow Peach
Belt Conference (PBC) opponent USC Aiken (12-6, 2-2 PBC) 6-8 and
2-0 in today's (Feb. 24) doubleheader.
In game one, the Bobcats fell to the Pacers 6-8 as Mandy Chandler
(Covington, Ga.) picked up her third loss of the season.
The senior tossed six innings with six hits, two walks and nine
strikeouts.
At the plate, freshman catcher Anna Parker (Columbus,
Ga.) was impressive going 2-for-3 with two homeruns, four
RBI and scoring three runs. Leftfielder Kati Pickowitz
(Keller, Texas) also went 2-for-3 with one RBI.
The 'Cats shutout the Pacers in game two 2-0 but only
after a two-run eighth inning where both Allison Schwimer
(Cumming, Ga.) and Sherquita
Bostick (Florence, S.C.) scored. With one out, Bostick
singled down the leftfield line. Schwimer then reached on an error
by the third baseman and got green lighted to second, also
advancing Bostick to third. Freshman Stephanie
Lezcano (Columbus, Ga.) singled to left field and
advanced to second while Bostick scored. Schwimer then scored on a
wild pitch by Toni Flessate.
Flessate picked up the loss for Aiken, falling to 6-2 for the
season while Chandler took the win for Georgia College, improving
to 9-3. The GCSU ace threw eight innings, gave up three hits,
walked two and fanned 12 batters. For the day, she pitched 14
innings with 21 strikeouts.
At bat for the Bobcats, Lezcano went 1-for-3 with an RBI while
Bostick was 1-for-1 with an RBI and a run. Seniors Lindsey Swanson
(Kennesaw, Ga.) and Tonya Medders
(Bascom, Fla.) both went 1-for-4 at the plate.
Georgia College is back in action this week in Salisbury, N.C.
for the Catawba Tournament. The Bobcats open the tournament against
Davis & Elkins Friday, Feb. 27 at 6 p.m.
