PEMBROKE, N.C. - The Georgia College &
State University women's basketball team (16-9, 11-7 PBC) lost a
heartbreaker to Peach Belt Conference (PBC) opponent, University of
North Carolina Pembroke (12-14, 8-11 PBC) in overtime to the score
of 63-61.
The Bobcats led by as many as 12 points in the second half but
the Braves were able to cut the lead to two with 1:30 on the clock.
Pembroke's JaToya Kemp drove the line and hit a layup with 46 ticks
left on the clock to tie the game at 56, which led to the eventual
overtime.
In OT it was all Pembroke as they outscored Georgia College 8-5.
The Bobcats did not make a shot in the last 3:28 of the extra
period.
GCSU was led by sophomore guard Mandi Dudish
(Snellville,
Ga.). Dudish tallied 14 points
hitting four threes.
Dudish was aided by Shandrea Moore's
(Ft. Lauderdale,
Fla.) 12 points and three
assists. Tiauna Brantley
(Woodstock,
Ga.) finished with 11 points and
11 boards, her fourth double-double of the season. Brantley has
also scored in double figures 18 times this season.
Lavontay Johnson was tonight's leading scorer finishing with 17
points and 10 boards. Johnson was aided by Kemp's 14 points along
with Ashley Morales who also dropped 14.
The Bobcats are 1-1 in overtime games this season and fall to
19-16 all-time. The 'Cats were 10-16 from the charity stripe
while the Braves couldn't miss hitting 23-29. Pembroke also out
rebounded Georgia College 56-38, which were two huge differences in
the contest.
Georgia College a dismal .290 from the floor, the poorest on the
season. The Braves outscored the Bobcats 26-6 from the paint too.
The next game for Georgia College will be on the road as they
face USC Aiken Saturday, Feb. 28 at 5:30 p.m. After that, the
Bobcats will play in the PBC Tournament also taking place in Aiken,
S.C. March 4-8.
