MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. - The No. 4 Georgia College
& State University men's tennis team (8-1) thrashed the
Mountain Lions of Concord University 9-0 earlier today (March 11)
at the Centennial Center Tennis Facility. The blanking marks the
third shutout for the Bobcats this season.
In first doubles, the Bobcat Brazillian duo of Joao
Casagrande and Francis
Yoshimoto defeated the team of Leonardo Araujo and
Joao Mischiatti 8-5.
Giovane Nucci
(Santa Catarina,
Brazil) and Max Beliankou
(Minksk,
Belarus) took down the twosome of
Aramando Estevez and Andrew Iruthayarajah 8-2 at the second doubles
slot.
At the third doubles match, the duo of Leo
Bernardes and Robert Angelucci
(Acworth,
Ga.) smashed Concord's Matt
Lester and Filip Crvenkovic to the score of 8-1.
The two most exciting matches of the day saw Georgia College's
Bernardes and Kyle Uhles
(Cumming,
Ga.) win their first singles dual matches of their
careers. Bernardes beat Estevez 6-0, 6-2. Uhles served Lester
double bagels beating him 6-0, 6-0.
Yoshimoto handed Araujo a loss winning 6-0, 6-2 at number one
singles.
At second singles, Beliankou, a week removed from Peach Belt
Conference (PBC) Player of the Week honors, defeated Mischiatti
6-3, 6-0. Beliankou's partner, Nucci, beat Iruthayarajah in
straight 6-1 sets.
The Bobcats' Angelucci and Mountain Lions' Crvvenkovic had to
settle things in a third set. Angelucci came out victorious 6-7,
6-1, 10-4.
GCSU has now won six in a row. The Bobcats are back in action
tomorrow, March 12 at 2:30 p.m. hosting Mount Olive College.
