MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. - The Georgia College &
State University softball team (17-11, 5-1 PBC) swept Peach Belt
Conference (PBC) opponent Georgia Southwestern State University
(7-22, 1-5 PBC) 8-0 and 3-2 today (March 12) at the Peeler Complex
where two Bobcat seniors proved their All-American status.
The Bobcat All-Americans put on a show today as Sherquita
Bostick (Florence, S.C.) was lights out at the plate
and Mandy Chandler
(Covington, Ga.) broke a conference record in the circle.
Bostick, the reigning PBC Player of the Year, went 5-for-5 for the
day recording two singles, one double and two triples. The senior
posted four RBIs and one run today while her classmate Chandler
broke the PBC career strikeout record during game two. Amy Dumas of
Augusta State University set the previous record at 1020 career
strikeouts last year, and after today's doubleheader, the Georgia
College ace has 1023.
Georgia College forced the mercy rule in game one shutting out
the Canes 8-0 in the sixth inning. The Bobcat bats were hot putting
up nine hits for the game. Bostick went 4-for-4 with four RBI,
Senior first baseman Tonya Medders
(Bascom, Fla.) was 1-for-3 scoring three runs while
freshman catcher Anna Parker (Columbus,
Ga.) went 1-for-2 with two runs. Freshman designated
player Haley Burnett
(Columbus, Ga.) went 1-for-4 posting one RBI.
Pitching for the Bobcats, Chandler allowed only one hit and sat
down seven Hurricane batters. The shutout was her third of the
season. Jessica Martin and Tiffany Milstid shared the pitching
duties for Georgia Southwestern. Martin tossed four innings with
five hits, six runs, four walks and four strikeouts while taking
the loss. Tiffany Milstid played 1.2 innings giving up four hits
and two runs.
In game two, Georgia College wasn't able to produce as many runs
but still had pretty warm bats posting seven hits compared to
Georgia Southwestern's four. Swanson went 2-for-4 with an RBI while
Medders went 2-for-3. Bostick was 1-for-1 with one run being walked
twice, once intentionally. Senior designated player Chelsea Wilson
(Jacksonville, Ga.) went 1-for-3 with a double and an RBI.
Kati
Pickowitz (Keller, Texas) scored the winning run off
of a Lindsey Swanson
(Kennesaw, Ga.) walk-off single in the bottom of the
seventh inning.
Chandler entered in the fourth to finish out the last four
innings giving up one hit and no runs while fanning seven and
claiming the win. She improves to 15-6 for the season. Georgia
Southwestern's Brittany Milstid took the loss allowing seven hits
and three runs with four walks and one strikeout.
The Bobcats are back in action Monday, March 16 in a
