JONESBORO,
Ga. - The Georgia College &
State University women's tennis team, the No. 6 seed, defeated the
Georgia Southwestern University Hurricanes, the No. 11 seed,
5-0 today to advance to the second round of the Peach Belt
Conference (PBC) Tennis Championships.
The Bobcats took all three doubles matches and won second and
fifth singles to take the match.
Diane
Danna (Paris,
France) and Bertille Lion
(Lyon,
France) defeated Monica Osam and
Ashley Waters 8-0 at second doubles for the largest margin of
victory for Georgia College.
At first doubles, Marjorie Ceppo
(Sao Paulo,
Brazil) and Gabby Acuna
(Peachtree City,
Ga.) beat Leady Cuellar and
Lauren Grogan 8-6. Lastly, at third doubles the twosome of
Angy
Cuellar (Bogota,
Colombia) and Adriana Acuna
(Peachtree City,
Ga.) took down the team of
Brittney Bowden and Adrienne Demarest 8-1.
Both singles matches were shutouts as Danna blanked Grogan 6-0,
6-0 at second singles. Similar results were seen at fifth singles
as Georgia College's Cuellar defeated Bowden in straight 6-0 sets.
The Bobcats advance to the second round and will square off
against No. 3 seed Francis Marion University tomorrow, April 18 at
11:30 a.m.
