GAINESVILLE,
Ga. - The No. 22 Georgia College
& State University women's tennis team (7-9, 4-5 PBC) was
beaten earlier today (April 6) by No. 13 NAIA opponent, Brenau
University (13-4) 8-1.
Sophomore Bertille Lion
(Lyon,
France) was the only victor for
the Bobcats as she defeated Jolene Wong 6-3, 6-3 at third singles.
The sophomore southpaw evens her singles record at 8-8.
The Bobcats took the Golden Bears into a tiebreaker in first
doubles. The twosome of Marjorie Ceppo
(Sao Paulo,
Brazil) and Gabby Acuna
(Peachtree City,
Ga.) lost the close knit match
9-7 to Hannah Thompson and Lyn See Choo.
At second doubles, Diane Danna
(Paris,
France) and Lion fell 8-6 to the
duo of Paula Ghilardotti and Wong. The freshman pair of Adriana Acuna
(Peachtree City,
Ga.) and Angy Cuellar
(Bogota,
Colombia) lost to the team of
Liubov Orlova and Natalia Aranguren 8-4.
In singles action, No. 47 Ceppo lost to Ghilardotti 7-5, 6-2 at
first singles. Danna fell 6-3, 7-6 to Choo at second singles.
Georgia College's Gabby Acuna lost 6-0, 6-4 to Brenau's
Thompson. The Bobcats' Cuellar was also defeated in straight 6-1
sets to the Golden Bears' Orlova.
The singles match between Adriana Acuna and Nelli Martirosyan
had to go into an extra set. Martirosyan came out on top 6-3, 1-6,
6-4.
GCSU is back in action Thursday, April 9 at the Centennial
Center Tennis Facility at 1 p.m. as they host Clark Atlanta
University. The Bobcats will honor their two seniors, Gabby Acuna
and Marjorie Ceppo, prior to Thursday's action.
