MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. - Senior centerfielder
Sherquita
Bostick (Florence, S.C.) blasted two home runs today
(April 7) as Georgia College & State University softball
(28-18, 12-4 PBC) split with Columbus State University (27-26, 9-7
PBC) falling 3-1 before taking a 7-3 win in game two.
Bostick's first home run was a solo shot in the bottom of the
first, giving Georgia College a 1-0 advantage. CSU took until the
third to answer, taking the lead with two runs. The first run
scored on a fielding error by the Bobcats, with the second scoring
on a Christie Thompson double. The Cougars got an insurance run in
the fifth when Thompson doubled again, bringing home Whitney
Jowers.
The Bobcats got a solid start from Mandy Chandler
(Covington, Ga.) as she went seven innings with two earned
runs, striking out eight CSU batters while not walking any. Kristi
Bullard (13-12) got the win for CSU, tossing five innings allowing
the one run with three whiffs. Jennifer Isasi picked up her sixth
save with two innings of work. The Bobcats managed just five hits
in game one.
Game two was a completely different story, as GCSU pounded out
seven runs on 11 hits. Bostick again took one over the fence in the
first inning, this time after an Allison Schwimer
(Cumming, Ga.) leadoff single for a two-run shot. Georgia
College didn't stop there.
Schwimer ripped her second single of the game in the second
inning, plating designated player Chelsea Wilson
(Jacksonville, Fla.) who led off with a single. GCSU
tacked on three more in the third, getting RBI singles from catcher
Anna
Parker (Columbus, Ga.) and Wilson. After three, the
Bobcats led 6-0. First baseman Tonya Medders
(Bascom, Fla.) added a sacrifice fly in the sixth, scoring
shortstop Lindsey Swanson
(Kennesaw, Ga.) who led off with a single.
Chandler picked up the win, her NCAA Division II-leading
24th victory (24-10). She fanned six while allowing
three runs on eight hits. Isasi (6-7) started game two and didn't
make it out of the third.
In game two, Bostick was 3-for-3 with two runs and two RBI.
Schwimer added a 2-for-4 game with a run and an RBI. Wilson scored
twice and drove in one while going 2-for-4.
The Bobcats are back in action for Senior Day, Thursday, April 9
at 4 p.m. against Clark-Atlanta University.
