FLORENCE, S.C.- The No. 29 women's tennis team at
Georgia College & State University (9-11) were defeated by
Peach Belt Conference opponent, No. 8 Columbus State University
(21-3) 5-0 earlier today (May 8).
The Bobcat duo of Marjorie Ceppo (Sao
Paulo, Brazil) and Gabby Acuna (Peachtree
City, Ga.) lost 9-8 (7-3) in first doubles against the No.
11 Cougar twosome of Eva Petschnig and Lindsey Groenewald. The team
of Ceppo and Acuna drops to 8-11 on the season.
At second doubles, Diane Danna (Paris,
France) and Bertille Lion (Lyon,
France) fell 8-6 to the No. 19 team of Hanane Toumi and
Roxana Dondera. Lion and Danna are a team best 10-9 on the year.
The third doubles match saw similar results as Angy Cuellar (Bogota,
Colombia) and Adriana Acuna
(Peachtree City, GA.) lost 8-1 to Erin Reynolds and
Daniela Castillo.
Georgia found themselves down 3-0 and needed to win five of six at
singles but could not get the job done.
Gabby Acuna was shut out 6-0, 6-0 at fourth singles to Castillo. At
six singles, Adriana Acuna was beat by Reynolds by 6-1, 6-2.
The loss closes out the season for Georgia College, including the
fifteenth-straight trip to the NCAA Tournament. The Bobcats will
lose just two seniors from the squad, as Ceppo and Gabby Acuna have
played their last matches as Bobcats.
