ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. - Taking
its eighth victory in a row, the Georgia College & State
University men's basketball team (14-2, 7-0 PBC) ran over Flagler
College (7-9, 2-5 PBC) 80-69 in Peach Belt Conference (PBC) action.
The Bobcats served a rude welcome to one of the newest teams to the
PBC.
All five starters had double-digit scoring efforts, including a
team-high 18 from senior Ty Rowland (Lilburn,
Ga.) and a 10-point, 11-rebound double-double out of
junior Josh
Hurst (Athens, Ga.). Seniors Graham Martin
(Marietta, Ga.) and Jake Rios (Bozeman,
Mt.) had 13 points each, with sophomore Ryan Aquino (Roswell,
Ga.) at 11 points and seven boards. Martin also nabbed
four steals.
Rowland added eight assists and now has 302 in his four-year
career, good for fifth in school history. The NCAA-era record at
Georgia College is fourth overall, set by John John
Steensland (1996-2000) at 309.
The Bobcat shooting was impressive, hitting 51 percent (24-47)
from the floor and eight three-pointers. The Saints managed just 38
percent (26-69) shooting, with 21 percent from long range.
Flagler had four double-digit scorers of their own, Eddie Fowler
pacing the Saints with 19. Kenny Moore had 11 points and 10
rebounds, while John Pietkiewicz and D.J. Ferguson had 13 and 11,
respectively. Ferguson, the PBC's top assist man, didn't disappoint
tallying 10, his season average.
Martin now has 1,122 career points, ranking 12th
all-time for Georgia College, passing Larry Anderson
(1971-75) with Martin's fourth point today. Tim
Jones (1995-97) is 11th at 1,130 career points.
The Bobcats are back in action at home Friday, Jan. 29 against
Francis Marion University at 7:30 p.m., ending a four-game road
stretch.
