MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. - The Georgia College &
State University women's basketball team's (13-5, 6-2 PBC) six-game
win streak was halted tonight (Jan. 29) as No. 17 Francis Marion
University (116-2, 8-1 PBC) overpowered the Bobcats 92-77 on their
home court in the Centennial Center. This was the first home loss
for the 'Cats this season.
Junior Chimere Jordan
(Gray, Ga.) led the Bobcats tonight with 28 points,
matching her season best set against Lincoln Memorial University
exactly one month ago. This marks her 14th double-digit
scoring contest and her fourth 20-point game. The guard also had
eight rebounds, seven of which were defensive, while swatting two
Patriot shots.
Guards Shandrea Moore (Ft.
Lauderdale, Fla.), Candice Clark (Warner
Robins, Ga.) and Dominique Huffin
(Tucker, Ga.) helped Jordan, putting up 10 points each.
Moore recorded four assists, while Clark snagged five rebounds and
Huffin grabbed seven. Senior Antoinette Reames
(Orlando, Fla.) added eight points, while collecting a
team-high of 13 boards, with 10 coming off the defensive glass. The
6-foot-2 forward also tallied three blocks, giving her 105 for her
career.
For Francis Marion, Shana Franks led the team with 24 points,
going 3-for-4 from three-point range. Eboni Fields put up 21
points, while Shannon Singleton-Bates scored 16. Simone Trice led
the Patriots in rebounding with 11, while Tiahana Bowens grabbed
nine. Leading Francis Marion in assists was Monica Mann with five.
The Patriots out-rebounded the Bobcats 51-40 and outscored them
50-20 in the paint and 25-16 off turnovers. The FMU bench outscored
the 'Cats' bench 38-18. Georgia College shot .366 from the
floor and .412 behind the arc, compared to Francis Marion's .468
and .529, respectively.
The Bobcats hope to return to their winning ways Sunday, Jan. 31
hosting conference opponent UNC Pembroke (10-8, 4-5) at 1:30 p.m.
in the Centennial Center.
