MORROW, Ga. - Allowing just 33 percent shooting
(16-49) the Georgia College & State University men's basketball
team (9-2, 2-0 PBC) remained undefeated in Peach Belt Conference
(PBC) play with a 69-50 victory at Clayton State University (8-5,
1-2 PBC) tonight.
Four players netted double-digit points tonight for the Bobcats,
led by 18 on 7-of-10 shooting from junior forward Josh Hurst (Athens,
Ga.). The 18 points ties Hurst's career-best effort set
Feb. 4, 2009 against North Georgia, and he also yanked down six
boards.
Senior guard Graham Martin
(Marietta, Ga.) had 16 points, going 8-of-8 from the
charity stripe, and has scored double-digit points in each of the
11 games this season. Jake Rios (Bozeman,
Mt.) and Andre Mikell
(Snellville, Ga.) each chipped in 11 points for the
Bobcats.
Georgia College hit 52 percent from behind the arc at 13-for-25,
getting threes from six different players. Robert Murry paced
Clayton with 18 points, while the defending PBC Player of the Week
Brandon Robinson was held to just eight points on six field goal
attempts. The Bobcats closed out the game well, hitting 11-for-11
from the free-throw line in the second half.
The Lakers cut the game to six at 51-45 with 9:14 left, but
Georgia College responded with a handcuffing 14-0 run for a
20-point lead with 2:15 left. The Bobcats caused six turnovers in
that run, which was capped by a Martin three.
Senior guard Ty Rowland (Lilburn,
Ga.) moved into sixth place in career assists at Georgia
College this evening. He has 281, passing Bryan Harrison
(2004-06), and Rowland is now just three behind No. 5
Darrell Flowers (1989-92).
The Bobcats are back in action Wednesday, Jan. 13 hosting
Georgia Southwestern University at 7:30 p.m. in the Centennial
Center.
