MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. - The
Georgia College & State University women's basketball team
(19-7, 12-4 PBC) defeated the University of Montevallo (14-12, 7-9
PBC) tonight (Feb. 24) 64-54 for Senior Night in the Centennial
Center.
With tonight's win, the Bobcats clinched the Peach Belt
Conference's (PBC) West Division championship. Georgia College will
host a first round contest in the PBC Tournament, matching up
against a fourth seed team. The tournament begins Tuesday, March
2.
Chimere Jordan
(Gray, Ga.) once again led the Bobcats, putting up a
game-high of 21 points. This is her 20th double-digit
scoring game and the sixth reaching the 20-point mark. Jordan
netted four from behind the arc and was perfect from the charity
stripe, going 5-for-5.
The junior tallied her second double-double with 11 rebounds, 10
of which were off the defensive glass. The 11 boards matches her
career-best, set Feb. 11 against Augusta State University. Jordan
had two more career-bests tonight with three blocks and six steals,
matching her stealing efforts last week against Columbus State
University.
Classmate Dominique Huffin
(Tucker, Ga.) aided the 'Cats offensively with 12
points, the 11th time she's cracked double-digits this
season. She also snagged three rebounds, while senior Anoinette
Reames (Orlando, Fla.) added eight points and four
boards. The 6-foot-2 forward tallied four swats and three assists.
Bobcat point-guard Shandrea Moore (Ft.
Lauderdale, Fla.) led Georgia College with a game-high of
six assists, while scoring seven points and grabbing three
rebounds.
For the Falcon offense, Carrie Parrott led the way with 13
points, while collecting six boards and one blocked shot. Alex
Sanabria helped Parrott's efforts, adding 10 points and a team-high
of both seven rebounds and three assists. Alicia Lewis and Shan
Jones each contributed nine points for the Falcons, while Jones
grabbed five boards.
The Bobcats out-shot UM from downtown .458 to .263 and .765 to
.556 from the line. However, Montevallo won the battle of the
boards 43-30. The Falcons also beat the 'Cats 26-10 on points
in the paint and 12-6 on second-chance points.
Georgia College honored four seniors tonight Reames, Moore,
Candice
Clark (Warner Robins, Ga.) and Katie Herndon
(Hoschton, Ga.).
The Bobcats are back in action Saturday, Feb. 27 traveling to
North Georgia for a tip-off time of 1:30 p.m.
