ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. - The No. 31 Georgia
College & State University women's tennis team (3-6, 1-4 PBC)
battled to a hard-fought loss Sunday afternoon, falling 6-3 to No.
23 Flagler College (7-2, 4-1 PBC).
In doubles action, the Bobcat pair of Diane Danna
(Paris) and Bertille Lion (Lyon,
France) sputtered against Chelsi de Cuba and Lauren
Pfeiffer 8-4, while Flagler's Veronica Figueroa and Jennifer
Saviano defeated Kayla Barksdale
(Martinez, Ga.) and Michelle Lingner
(Dunwoody, Ga.) 8-2.
Slotted third, Georgia College's Adriana Acuna
(Peachtree City, Ga.) and Linda Mosa (Stockholm,
Sweden) lost 8-5 to Chelsea Taylor and Rachel Gould,
giving the Saints a 3-0 lead going into singles play.
The Bobcats got top-heavy singles wins, taking half of the six
bouts. Danna got revenge on de Cuba, winning 6-3 and 6-4 and
improving to 5-3 for the season. Barksdale outlasted Pfeiffer going
6-3, 5-7 and 6-2, while Lion also went three sets beating Figueroa
6-3, 3-6 and 6-3.
In the No. 4 position, Saviano held Lingner down 6-3 and 6-0.
Mosa lost 6-2 and 6-1 to Deon Miller, while in the sixth spot,
Acuna fell 6-1 and 6-0 to Taylor.
The Bobcats are back in action Saturday, March 13 hosting No. 35
Lander University at 1 p.m. at the Centennial Center Tennis
Facility.
