MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga.
– The Georgia College & State University
softball team (9-18, 1-3 PBC) lost a pair of games Tuesday night to
UNC Pembroke (15-9, 6-6 PBC) by vastly different scores, losing
game one 3-1 and game two 10-2.
The Braves put the
first run of the night on the board in the third, but Georgia
College answered right away. Third baseman Kelsea
Martin (Dacula, Ga.) started the inning with a single,
advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt, and came around on an error
for a 1-1 score.
UNCP put another run
on in the fourth on a wild pitch, and added an insurance score on a
Morgan Patrick home run in the seventh. Alex Hartshorn tossed the
first four innings to get the win, allowing a run and scattering
three hits. Caroline Newman got her first save by going the final
three hitless. Sophomore Haley
Burnett (Columbus, Ga.) fell to 6-8 on the year, going
six innings, allowing two earned runs.
Two big innings
powered the Braves to a game two win as they had three runs in the
third and five in the fourth to pull off the sweep. UNCP recorded
10 hits for their 10 runs. Kayla
Smith (Lexington, S.C.) and Martin each recorded RBI
singles in the loss. Allison Schwimer (Cumming, Ga.) and
Kati Pickowitz (Keller, Texas) each scored
runs, Schwimer ripping her third double of the year in the fifth
and coming in on Martin's single.
The Braves'
Holly Berry recorded two home runs and a double on a 3-for-4
nightcap, driving in five.
Freshman righty
Kristi Rodriguez (Marietta, Ga.)
dropped to 3-5, going 2 1/3 innings, allowing three earned among
