AMERICUS, Ga. – The No. 30 Georgia
College & State University women's tennis team (8-7, 4-4
PBC) shut out Georgia Southwestern University (5-15, 0-11 PBC) 9-0
Friday.
In doubles action, the Bobcat French duo of Diane
Danna (Paris) and Bertille
Lion (Lyon, France) overpowered Leady Cuellar and
Lauren Grogan 8-2, improving to 9-6. Freshmen Kayla
Barksdale (Martinez, Ga.) and Michelle Lingner (Dunwoody, Ga.) blew away the
Hurricane pair of Monica Osam and Mollie McGowan, continuing to
duplicate Danna and Lion's record.
In the No. 3 position, GSW's Katie Adamson and Leigh Adams
fell 8-3 to Adriana
Acuna (Peachtree City, Ga.) and Linda
Mosa (Stockholm, Sweden), giving the 'Cats a 3-0
lead going into singles play.
At first singles, Danna downed Cuellar in a two 6-3 sets, while
Barksdale beat McGowan in 6-2 sets, improving to 10-3 and 8-5 in
their respective positions. Lion blanked Grogan 6-0, 6-0, going
10-3 in the No. 3 singles spot. Lingner overwhelmed Osam in 6-1
sets, while Mosa and Acuna both shut out Adamson and Adams,
respectively.
The Bobcats are back in action tomorrow, April 3 hosting No. 5
Columbus State University in a Peach Belt Conference (PBC) matchup
starting at 2 p.m.
